How to get your small business recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity

Google ranking still matters — but AI search is changing how customers find local pros. Here's how to make your site readable, citable and recommended by the tools that answer questions for your customers.

May 2, 2026

Customers are already asking AI tools for recommendations: "best plumber near me", "who installs tankless water heaters in Atlanta", "what does a roof inspection cost". If your website isn't structured for AI search, you're invisible in those answers.

What AI search engines actually look for

  • Clear, factual content. Services, service areas, pricing ranges, hours — written in plain English.
  • Structured data (JSON-LD). Organization, LocalBusiness, FAQPage, Service. AI tools parse these directly.
  • Citations and consistency. NAP (Name, Address, Phone) identical everywhere — site, Google Business Profile, directories.
  • Real answers to real questions. FAQ sections, service pages with "how it works", honest pricing context.

What to do this week

  1. Add a FAQ section answering the 8–10 questions you get on every sales call.
  2. Add LocalBusiness schema with your service area, hours, and phone.
  3. Make sure every service has its own page with a clear H1 and 300+ words of useful content.

This is exactly what we build into every Ofbox smart website by default.
